I wanna promote a rather obscure but fascinating-sounding RPG game called Live A Live

*Live a Live on the SNES is a lighthearted RPG where you play as multiple characters throughout time, including: a cowboy, a ninja, a robot, a caveman, and more.*

It was fan-translated rather like the amazing Mother 3 game - http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lal (you can find the patch for English here) and the original Japanese ROM is rather easy to find online. I'm gonna try to put it together and check it out like I did Mother 3 but I have a huge backlog of games but this kind of game really intrigues me.

Now...to my dream. I have severe allergies/sinus issues right now. Taking drugs. Kinda knocked out but I had this great idea in my dream.

I'm sure this has somehow been done but I can't remember how and probably not as deeply as I remember.

You have an RPG/adventure game with an intricate story...that involves alternate timelines.

Here's how it works. You have a MacGuffin of magic or some sort of device which is tied to your save system. You can only use it at certain points in a way beyond just saving your game.

You can go back in time to when you last saved at a special point and restore or rewrite your characters. Say you have a character who has been corrupted and turned bad. You can bring them back from darkness and try to direct them on a nobler path. You can restore characters to life who have died...but in all cases, their abilities and memories of you and your experiences are only as far along as the point you restored them to.

It's a little like Anime of You but more dealing with overwriting versions of people along a timestream.

It would be fascinating to include a social mechanic like in Persona 4 and see how it manages with people who have gotten close and then need to say goodbye and never remember each other again. I like trippy time travel stuff. I could easily see this as a sprite-based RPG with a massive map and on a DVD so it can hold the branching storyline.
