It's interesting...
Oct. 30th, 2006 02:13 pmThey say write about what you know and really looking at my work, there's a lot of themes in there that come out of my consciousness. Mecchen is no different in the end really. It just has a different sort of structure to hold it together. I do need to watch not to make it a kitchen sink of all the ideas from other stories which are locked up in limbo. But if the medium allows me to express it, the theme will be there. On that note though, I figured out the "solution" to all the peculiar parts of Mecchen, even the ones that were confounding me. I knew where I was going, I just wasn't sure how all the elements precisely fit. Now I do.
+ I know who did this to the 'boys' in Mecchen (although I knew it before sorta).
+ I know why and how they've doing all these odd little things and what they mean.
+ I'm especially proud that it works out in a way that doesn't utterly destroy characters (although there's one thing I'm still debating. Think of it like with Card Captor Sakura where the one boy is actually a creation of the Clow guy. It kinda comes as a surprise though there's plenty of prior elements. It works because he's a rather simplistic character. But I think it'd be a disservice to my characters if something were to come along that violates the 'promise' of their creation. As I said, there's one thing I'm thinking over but no details because it's a near end element)
+ I'm not gonna kill any characters. Sorry if that's something of an anti-climax but no one is kinda get whacked just for the heck of it. This just is not that kind of story. I don't have much respect for animes that just decide, hey lets kill off that girl. It make things sad. So that's not gonna happen. I'm really going for something more along the lines of my works blended with Haruhi Suzumiya. It's gonna get pretty freaking weird at points but not so out of it that it messes up what's gone before. Plus even then, I want to make sure it's grounded in character issues.
+ There will be an Epilogue which will in some ways mirror and offset the Prologue.
That's about it. Still working on the new chapter. I want to get through some particular Nathan and Kelly character parts because I feel like they have the most mysterious natures to them.
