Hmm...Nice visuals actually. I like the anime interludes. Fun running around. I'm kinda ticked they not only use the VO they previously had in the skits, but that you don't realize a skit is available because it's a tiny little, odd mark on the screen you may not notice...but they turn off all sound in the scene.
Luckily my TV doesn't make a buzzing noise because I fixed the cords, otherwise this would be even worse. But what alarmed me more than anything was...okay...skit...*sees* wait...can I pause this? *taps* @_@ wha? where'd it go? I wanted to pause it! Now it's gone?!?! X_X *weeps*
There better be a way to review and reply skits later on or as an unlockable or this game is definitely falling short of being a best of the year. I like the dialogue. The lack of sound doesn't bug me too much because I tend to add my own sound in my head like reading a novel.
I'm a little ticked I can't manipulate the skits like I can the rest of the conversations. I sometimes need to scamper away for stuff and I'm left hanging there because if I didn't save lately, I'll miss it. The battle system is really fun. I'm sure I'm missing something.
I have no clue how to heal for myself or use items in the battle area. But I did get to the wee town of Endengle or something. I went by walking. A couple critters to kill so not bad. I figure skits are like an extra but I'm rather ticked I can't do more to manipulate them like...well every other RPG ever made.
I just came off of Tomb Raider Legend (was super short but incredible character moments). The opening and ending of that blew my mind but it's left waaaaay open for sequels. It was exceedingly well-acted. But I have three gripes. One - TOO...FREAKING...DARK...the visual display. I mean I know you have a personal light source but it's on a timer. There were about five different places where I got especially stuck but I'm rather proud I only needed a nudge a few rare times in this game. A lot of it is really intuitive jumping and puzzle-solve. Nothing like the crap in the last game. Two - for all the cool there are two areas where it absolutely ticks me off. I mean like falling icicles. The person who thought of/put in falling icicles must suffer the most painful transmogrification into a pair of panties. Took me a long time to get by those icicles because you have to rotate the character on the icicle and somehow judge well enough to aim for the next one and find where you final jump spot will be from a split-second glimpse. But aside from that early Nepal area and some perplexing London puzzles...The game went really well for me. It's the first I've completed without keeping my nose in a Strategy Guide for the whole way. Three - They'll be having the next game on the PS3. That just stinks. A series which is directly connected to another really oughta be completed on the game console.
Anywho, back to Tales of the Abyss. I love the fighting system and I just got the free movement option. I enjoy Tear, she's an interesting traveling companion although now that I'm in town...I want to talk to people but I don't want to skip any dialogue. I wish I knew what triggered the next set of events. Oh well. I'll just look around and see what's what...^_^
