HOLY CRAP! I GOT AN A!

I BSed the shit out of that last week! How the hell did I do that?!?!...oh wait...I BSed the shit out of it...lesson learned...

"Procrastinate as much as you can then BS your work at the end and you will succeed!"

Thanks, class!
I had no confidence about that class...and I was bored out of my skull to the point I just read random books and played video games during class (not the only one either...).

I'm so glad I did well...so this calls for sushi (probably Friday...when I'll be out getting dad's pie... or Saturday so as not to interfere with Father's Day on Sunday).

Found it!

I was looking for this particular article after I read it in the doctor's office the other day. Fascinating little article.

The Tojinbo Cliffs of Japan and Yukio Shige
That's not particularly a compliment though.

Baccano is a jumbled mess of flashbacks and barely-there continuity. It shows the same scenes from several perspectives. It has an immense cast of characters. It spends way to much time on some things and very little on resolving its story issues.

That isn't to say it wasn't enjoyable to watch. There's a bit of fascination to be found with all the complex things the series does. I doesn't quite have the nuance of characters as Lost but it has some memorable ones for sure. It also has a number of immortal characters and begins around what happened on a ship several hundred years ago.

Baccano fails to show (or at least clarify) several critical scenes in its broken continuity. I have very little idea what is going on with Dallas or Eve (who is probably my least favorite character). Baccano also loves to throw in new characters to make it's lack of dealing with the old ones "better". It has holes in story you would drive a damn ship through....and then explains those as "oh that's just because the perspective is like a newspaper investigating it and people may do things out of sight of the camera...so we can imagine those experiences..." Yeah...ooookay. It's a kinda post-modern perspective...things can be only known secondhand...but it plays with that idea very loosely. There are things shown which the reporters could never know (Rachel...the gypsy-looking reporter girl..should've had more of a focus). I would've loved more of a Rashomon perspective but the story kinda half-asses that aspect.

Do I recommend Baccano? It intrigued me after the fourth episode to the thirteenth...the OVAs...feel so unnecessary. Three episodes of a half-assed storyline with a psycho mechanic who is mad Ladd got beaten. A psycho mechanic who that hangs in the towel at the climactic moment. I don't recommend bothering with the OVA's...just watch the series in reverse order from episode 13 to 1. There are so many unexplained scenes in the early episodes which don't fit with the continuity drawn up by the rest of the series. It just does not make sense to me. Lost season 5 made sense to me...and it is the most f-ed up chronology full of time travel and storylines and junk beyond belief. So there it is...Baccano...total nonsense by name and it lives up to it (although entertaining nonsense for parts of it).
