That was totally my first response to that poster. They really, really should have tried to distinguish it from the Garfield trainwreck... And ghetto chipmunks? However, I did read some interesting news about it that gives some hope. First, the original poked at pop culture, so I suppose that kinda explains the deigns (not by much yet, though) And here's some more hopeful copy-pasta ---
While as horrified by the initial prospect as the rest of you, some facts you should all consider:
-The movie will be produced by the same man who had the rights to the Chipmunks in the eighties, the age of Chipmunks at the Movies and the chipettes fanservice. This man also voiced Alvin and Simon back in the day, and will do so again for this movie.
-The movie will be written by the man who wrote The Simpsons episodes "Mister Plow," "The Crepes of Wrath," Treehouse of Horror III (which featured King Homer and Dial Z for Zombies), and "Bart's Dog Gets An F." Though on the other hand, the other writer will be the writer for the second Agent Cody Banks movie and Surf's Up.
-It will be directed by the man who wrote Rocko's Modern Life and directed Muppets From Space.
Hopeful, but still, what a crappy movie poster
