I figure this joke has been made before about the game Rhythm Heaven but it fits.
I knew I was in trouble when I couldn't even activate the START SCREEN!!!
The game requires you to use the touch screen in a near-flawless manner. There's no margin of error. If you miss even a little, you are screwed. It's like (I imagine) playing Guitar Hero super-evil high mode all the time. You need to flick a ball to get the game started each time and it needs to launch just right. My gosh....to even start the game...you need to be skilled in perfect touch-screen use. You're screwed if you have an old touch-screen which has been worn out from use.
And now...the game...for what there is of it. This is by the Warioware people and it is not for casuals...or people with non-teenage wrists, the rhythm of non-savants, or normal human beings. You're flicking a pipe at a narrow set of parts as the music plays "do-rei-me-fa-sol" You need to hit right on the sol as the pace changes all over the place. I kinda got the idea but after an hour of trying I can't get through this very first mission. The stage hits you with an almost complete blackout of the screen and you need to go only on rhythm which is oscillating up and down and if you miss the last ones it means much more than any you miss at the beginning. So you're screwed pretty much every way you can imagine if you try to play this game...and that's not really a game I have an interest in playing...especially consider it started as a button pressing game darnit! Button pressing is a lot more reliable than a frickin' touch screen which will decide to register your motion when it darn well feels like it.
Easily the most unpleasant DS I've ever played and I'm glad it was just a rental. I can't imagine what reviewers saw in this with the high scores they gave. Are they just so flawless with DS-perfectos from on High that none of this is a challenge to them? Do they just have more rhythm than me? Well, I'm done with this one...
